| Abstract: | Nestled in a picturesque Scenic Rim valley, the Lake Moogerah Caravan Park needed an overhaul. For continued public enjoyment of such a prime location, the Scenic Rim Regional Council recently completed a major facilities upgrade. With objectives to not only meet current regulatory and accessibility requirements, but also ‘future proof’ the facilities for sustainable use into the future, the project scope required a multi-disciplinary infrastructure outlook. Works included construction of a largescale modern and accessible amenities block (with 30 toilets and 26 showers), a modern camp kitchen, the installation and commissioning of a containerised water treatment plant (WTP) system, an electrical system overhaul including undergrounding of existing overhead supply as well as new distribution boards, decommissioning of an effluent dam and installation of a treatment and storage system, as well as the trenching in of associated piping networks. From early master planning and grant application submissions, through to final construction, commissioning and handover, the project team overcame numerous hurdles to deliver what is a now a great outcome for the community. Project challenges included funding and timeframe constraints, project scoping, heightened industry demand from COVID, ensuring accessibility requirements were met, navigating water supply and electrical regulations, existing ground conditions and services, as well as extreme wet weather throughout construction. The paper will give an overview of the project as well as delve into some of the project challenges. Funding was a combination of grants from the Unite and Recover and Works for Queensland programmes, as well as Council contributions. Works were completed in October 2022 and are now in place for all to enjoy. |
