The primary aim of the overall project was to activate the riverfront precinct through the creation of an attractive pedestrian oriented "Esplanade" that is strongly linked to the CBD and the wider city, backed by high quality parkland and activity areas that will attract both residents and visitors. Quay St is the main riverside street in Rockhamptons’ CBD. This section, from the Fitzroy Bridge to William St, is characterised by a large number of heritage buildings. The project sought to highlight these buildings with natural stone paving to the footpaths and roadways, interpretative signage, precinct markers, ground mounted video monitors and lantern seating.en_US
